2023 IB Case Competition

March 2-3, 2023

The International Business Case Competition is an annual event in which students from several different universities, especially minority-serving institutions, are placed in groups to solve a real-world business problem. The challenge provides students with the opportunity to meet students from other universities as well as gain insight on real-world business issues. As the program provides each student with beneficial skills and experience, it also has strict criteria that must be followed. The students are assigned to teams of four students, but with the requirement that every student from the team is from a different university and majoring in a distinct field area. This will allow students to work through multiple cross-cultural obstacles, including different study habits, learning methods, and even diverse university cultures. The fields represented during the Case Competition are Finance, Accounting, Marketing, and Management & Operations.

At the start of the first day, the students are given the time to participate in a variety of events that are meant to build up their trust and familiarity with each other. Later, each team is given its case and has the rest of the day to come up with the solution. On day two, the teams stand in front of a panel of judges and present their solution to the case.

The International Business Case Competition is funded by the U.S. Department of Education with the goal of mounting competitiveness in the global market. The competition not only allows students to work together in teams, but it also prepares them to enter the global job market, in which they will be confronted with actual business problems.

 Interested in Participating?

Numerous institutions have been invited to participate, but the competition is limited to 12 teams. Timely submission of this completed form will impact the selection process. However, the selection of participating institutions is not strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. In an effort to provide more institutions with the opportunity to participate, some team slots are reserved for institutions that have not previously participated in this competition.

The final selection of the 2023 participating institutions will be announced via email in January 2023.

Selected institutions will be asked to submit the names, contact information, and academic focus (Finance, Accounting, Marketing, or Management) for each student as well as the participating faculty advisor by Friday, December 2, 2022.

If your institution is interested in participation, please fill out the Commitment Form and submit to gsuciber@gsu.edu by December 2, 2022.
